Farewell!

Farewell! It was a good life.

The ground provided for me all throughout my days, never leaving me to want. Any need was fulfilled before even being realized by bodies pulled toward equilibrium by the forces of nature, oft manifested by liches. I believe I made a difference; the monsters within Britannia now know that they are empowered to act against their aggressors, no longer to be sheepishly herded and blocked and farmed but to rise to the occasion and borrow shiny trinkets to the cries of "WTF?". The ailing trade skills now breathe with new life as adventurers once again must replace the items of theirs donated to the earth. The progression of life is unburdened and freed by the weakening of perpetual possession I have heralded. I now leave the universe that is UO but taking with me the knowledge that the cycle will continue as those who have gained understanding and seen the true meaning of this ebb and flow of life, essence, and silver weapons will carry on and lead Sosaria to a harmonious existence between player, monster, and ground.

I would like to thank and remember Pofhug the trash barrel looting orc, Defetav the 'one-hit' ratman archer, Mr. PE the misunderstood whirling green cloud of love, Fluffy the Shadow Wyrm of Destard level 2, the many drakes, dragons, and nightmares who aided me on my adventures, and all the other denizens of UO who made the dirt just that much more attractive for heavily laden corpses of unprepared adventurers.

I shall miss you all.

In the end though, everyone gets looted. The rich, the poor, the poor looters who get rich.. The great leveler takes us all.. Looted by the grandmaster, he who is known to all.. eBay.

It's been fun! I've enjoyed taking all your things. ;) I hope we'll meet again someday so I can again take all your things.

For those of you who want Belan to live on, I have written a program that will allow you to generate lines of text similar to that which Belan might have said! It has complete knowledge of everything Belan ever spoke in UO so it might even spit out a few things I don't want you to hear. :) You can get it here. Run the .bat files to generate text. I've included the source so if you want to make your own probabilistic generated text you can. This will work on UNIX/Linux systems as well as it's just two perl scripts basically.

I decided to go on a quest to see what other games could support UO-like behavior. The results are below:

Below are screenshots that either wern't worth putting on the site, I hadn't finished writing up, were incomplete, were out of character, were of chars I played other than Belan, or were illegal (Before luring was legal, Belan was "Belan, Scourge of Deceit" and did quite a bit of luring. Right before I posted those episodes, OSI declared luring illegal. When I emailed and asked, they said I shouldn't post them despite there taking place before it was illegal. So, they've sat around and gathered dust until now :)). Some are just a screenshot or two, and some are full episodes in various stages of completion. Enjoy!
